Our History
JAT is a family-owned trucking company founded 50 years ago by Jim Thompson with a single truck and trailer. Since that time, our company has grown into the successful & dependable business it is today. The fleet now includes over 120 semi tractors and 350 Dry Van & Refrigerated trailers. We operate 400,000 sq. feet of food grade commercial warehouse & have a fleet of 1,500 storage trailers and containers for customers to rent.
Over the past 50 years, we have evolved into a multi-faceted company with multiple divisions. We work as a cohesive unit to better serve our customers. We pride ourselves on quality service and proactive communication. Located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, JAT has easy access to major Midwestern roadways and is within a day’s drive of two thirds of the US and Canada Population base. We also have satellite locations in Lansing, MI and Indianapolis, IN.

2022
Expanded our Trailer Service Center, also enhancing the working environment for our service technicians and to accommodate additional equipment.
2021
Expanded our Truck Service Center and Yard, enhancing the working environment for our service technicians and to accommodate additional equipment.
2019
Purchased a neighboring building for expansion of our headquarters in Fort Wayne, IN to include driver bunk rooms, lounge, fitness center, office & meeting space.
Purchased an additional 180,000 square foot warehouse in Fort Wayne
2018
Opened an additional brokerage office in Indianapolis, IN
2014
Purchased All City Delivery located in Fort Wayne adding 20 power units & 50 Dry Van Trailers
2002
Opened up our Dedicated Division and executed two private fleet conversions
2000
Added additional Rail Service at Tristate Warehousing. Started bringing in hoppers of salt from Utah to store, package, palletize and distribute throughout the Midwest.
1995
Founded Tristate Tractor Trailer Leasing and began leasing storage Trailers to customers.
1990
Purchased property near headquarters & built a new 7 bay Truck Service Center and yard to domicile our growing fleet of trucks and trailers
1987
Purchased a 180,000 square foot warehouse with rail access in Fort Wayne and founded Tristate Warehousing
1984
Purchased & moved to current headquarters in Fort Wayne, IN
1981
Moved out of the living room & into a leased facility on Industrial Road in Fort Wayne, IN
1980
Deregulation of the trucking industry, opened the doors for more rapid growth
1979
Became Incorporated and was sponsored by Food Marketing & Pillsbury to gain authority. Introduced Dry Van trailers into the fleet
1976
Grew to 3 trucks, purchased a Tanker and additional grain trailer and started hauling bulk dairy products.
1975
Company founded by Jim Thompson in Fort Wayne, IN. One truck & one grain trailer hauling out of an elevator to ships in Chicago.
